Conference Description
The Fibronectin, Integrins and Related Molecules Gordon Conference has been meeting since 1982. The meeting was initially focused on the biology of fibronectin, a multi-functional component of the extracellular matrix that exerts myriad effects on cells and tissues. With the identification of the integrin family and the recognition that most of the effects of fibronectin on cell behavior were mediated through interactions with integrins, this conference developed into the major gathering of scientists interested in the structure, function, cell biology and in vivo significance of integrins and their ligands. The conference usually includes sessions on integrin signaling, integrin activation, cell migration, and the roles of integrins, integrins ligands and downstream signaling pathways in development and disease. Other topics that are usually discussed include integrin structure, mechanisms of extracellular matrix assembly, adhesive signaling in the vasculature, adhesive signaling in inflammation and host defense, and cell-matrix interactions in three dimensions. In recent years a number of talks have also addressed the growing interest in integrins and their ligands as therapeutic targets.
