Minority Diversity Initiative
 
The GRC Underrepresented Minority (URM) Diversity Initiative

The GRC 2005 - 2008 Strategic Plan outlines the long term goals of the GRC URM Diversity Initiative. These goals are to:

  1. Provide the financial incentive necessary to assist URM scientists to attend GRCs through the Carl Storm Underrepresented Minority Fellowship program
  2. Establish a Blue Ribbon Panel on URM Diversity to provide guidance to GRC in fulfilling these goals
  3. Develop a more effective outreach program to the URM community that encourages greater URM participation in GRCs
  4. Quantify the effectiveness of the GRC URM Diversity Initiative through rigorous data collection, analysis, and reporting

The GRC Blue Ribbon Panel on URM Diversity is an Advisory Panel to assist GRC with developing appropriate goals, and devising innovative strategies to steward GRCs Diversity Initiative. The Panel, chaired by Board of Trustees member, William A. Lester, Jr., University of California, Berkeley, is comprised of 7 members, each of whom represents diversity in the sciences, a familiarity with GRC, and a commitment to fostering opportunities for URM in the sciences.
