Nuclear Chemistry
June 16-21, 2002
Colby-Sawyer College
New London, NH
Chair:
Phillippe Chomaz

Vice Chair:
Robert Wadsworth

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Nuclear Chemistry GRC! This conference is focused on the most recent progresses on the various aspects of nuclear reactions from fusion to the multi-fragmentation or production of a quark-gluon plasma. Important issue and cross-fertilization of the varous fields are our main preoccupation: the understanding of nuclear properties and nuclear dynamics. From the very low energies to the highest accessible ones the theoretical concepts are amazingly universal. These concepts will be an ideal basis of discussion.

The meeting will be articulated in four parts, with co-chairs will be responsible for each subject: Nuclear Reactions - isospin and structure in reaction (Maria Colonna, Romualdo Desouza and Sherry Yennello); Multi-fragmentation and the liquid-gas phase transition (Luciano Moretto, Bernard Tamain and Betty Tsang); Nuclear Dynamics - Transport Phenomena (Pawel Danielewicz, Hisashi Horiuchi and Piera Sapienza); and Towards Quark-gluon Plasma (Jean-Paul Blaizot, Barbara Erazmus, Roy Lacey and Johanna Stachel).

Each "day" will include an evening session followed by the next morning. It will follow the same format putting the emphasize on new ways to discuss physics: An evening starting with 3 general presentations (20+10 min), followed by an ensemble of "clips": very short presentations (2-3 transparencies maximum) followed by 5 minutes discussion. This is an opportunity to get a lot of very new results. A morning starting with 4 general presentations (20+10 min) followed by a discussion prepared by the chair and the three co-chairs in order to focus on key issues. This is not a panel discussion but a trial to progress collectively on important questions. The discussion leaders will be the only one allowed to show transparencies with the explicit restriction to never show their own slides. The main tool will be the black board. Also poster sessions will be organized.
