Radiation Oncology
Translating Scientific Breakthroughs To The Radiation Oncology Patient
January 24-29, 2010
Hotel Galvez
Galveston, TX
Chair:
William F. Morgan

Vice Chair:
Robert Bristow

The Gordon Research Conference on Radiation Oncology covers the biological basis of the therapeutic effects of ionizing radiation, with emphasis on translating new developments in basic and translational research to the patient. Although much of the content of the conference will include basic science, the plan is to relate this basic research to major issues in human cancer treatment, and in particular the role of radiation therapy. This is the only Gordon conference that deals directly with this major cancer treatment modality. Sessions will cover recent highlights in the following areas:

  • Targeting the DNA Damage Response for Cancer Therapy
  • Modulating Radiation Sensitivity by Perturbing Receptor Signaling Pathways
  • Systemic Responses to Radiation that Impact Therapy
  • Custom Tailoring Radiation Therapy for the individual patient
  • The Pros and Cons of Stem Cells in Radiotherapy
  • Application of New Modalities to Radiation Oncology
  • Clinical Application of Nanotechnologies in Radiotherapy
  • Combined Radiotherapy and Targeted Therapy for Improved Local Control

Outstanding speakers who are leaders in the various fields have been identified. In addition to the participation of senior investigators, a number of young scientists have been invited to present and discuss their latest research results. Ample time has been allowed for discussion after individual presentations, and informal interactions between attendees.
