Conference Program

INDUSTRIAL ECOLOGY

August 6-11, 2006
The Queen's College
Oxford, United Kingdom

Chair:
Valerie Thomas

Vice Chair:
Faye Duchin

Industrial ecology is about the relations among industry, technology, and the environment. The conference will address the range of industrial ecology research, including:

  • innovations in material and energy technologies,
  • optimization of industrial processes for efficiency and sustainability.
  • environmental impacts of consumers and households,
  • voluntary industrial environmental initiatives,
  • use of industrial wastes as feedstocks for other industries,
  • methods for evaluating the environmental impacts of products, and
  • the relation of environmental impacts to social and economic factors.

Typical days will have two sessions, one in the morning and one at night, with the afternoons reserved for work with colleagues and for recreation. Each session typically has three speakers, each of whom is asked to present new work, at the frontier of Industrial Ecology, that has not yet been published.

Posters: In the Gordon Conference format, the number of plenary speakers is rather small, so the poster session becomes a key opportunity for participants to present their work. We encourage all participants to submit poster abstracts for the poster session. In addition, there will be a Student Poster Competition, and we encourage students to enter this competition. All poster abstracts should be submitted to Faye Duchin at duchin@rpi.edu. As of mid-May there are a few poster spaces left.

Student Chapter of the International Society for Industrial Ecology: Students are strongly encouraged to join the Student Chapter and to apply to attend the GRC.
