About the Site

The Renaissance Tuscany is situated 500m above sea-level, in the north of Tuscany at 40km from Lucca, 60km from Pisa and 110km from Florence, not far from the village of Castelvecchio Pascoli in a private thousand-acre estate overlooking the Serchio Valley and the Apuane mountains.

The hotel features indoor and outdoor pools, fitness facilities, game room, and a broad selection of exciting afternoon activities and excursions and is situated close to a hiking trail leading to the nearby village of Barga. The scenic, isolated site offers a serene setting to facilitate informal discussions and foster collaborative networks.

Child Care and Family Resources

All GRC attendees are welcome to have guests (including spouses, children, nannies and babysitters) accompany them to the conference. The site is fully equipped to accommodate families and for those who are bringing children the site offers assistance with child care services.

Arrival and Check-In

It is anticipated that attendees will arrive/check-in on Sunday between 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm. If you wish to stay on the Saturday night before the meeting or the Friday night after the meeting you must contact the hotel directly for a reservation - please email: reservations.mgr@renaissancetuscany.com.

The Meeting Room and Poster Area

Gordon Research Conference (GRC) science sessions and poster sessions are held in Salone Pascoli in the Congressi building.

Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) science sessions and poster sessions are held in L'Ora di Barga or Sala Madiai in the Congressi building.

On-Site Housing and Facilities

The Renaissance Tuscany's guest rooms include private bathrooms, telephones (external line), TVs, refrigerator-bars and air-conditioning.

There are 80 single rooms available for GRC attendees at the Renaissance Tuscany. Accepted applicants have an opportunity to register for a single room on a first come, first served basis. Once all available single rooms have been reserved, you will be required to register for a shared room.

Special note about guests (spouses, family members, etc.) accompanying GRC attendees: All guests must register with GRC in advance. GRC’s guest registration fee includes accommodations and meals at the hotel for the duration of the meeting. The hotel is unable to accommodate guests who have not pre-registered with GRC. Please contact your Conference Operations Associate if you have any questions about the guest registration process.

Dining Area and Meals

Meals are served in La Veranda restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel. Vegetarian selections are provided at all meals. Kosher or Halal meals are not available, but please discuss your dietary needs with your Conference Operations Associate in advance and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Internet, Phone and Computer Access

Free wireless Internet access is available in the meeting room, reception and bar area, the main terrace and all guest rooms.

The Renaissance Tuscany provides computer facilities for GRC attendees in il Castagno near the Salone Pascoli in the Congressi building. The room includes wireless Internet access, PCs, and printers.

Remember to bring an electrical adaptor for Italy to charge your phone, tablet, laptop, or other items. Adaptors are not available for purchase on-site.

Phones are available in guest rooms. Please bring a calling card with you as they are not available for purchase at the hotel. Check with your cell phone carrier before traveling to Italy to ensure that you have an international plan.

Handicapped Accessibility

The site is fully handicapped accessible.

On-Site Recreation

The Renaissance Tuscany has indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness center, and a game room on-site.

Site-Organized Activities

The Renaissance Tuscany offers several special GRC activities during the conference week. Sign-ups for on-site activities and off-site excursions will be available at the hotel.

Other Information

Please pack the supplies you will need during the conference before traveling. Note that the hotel does not have any shopping facilities for toiletries, notepads, electrical adaptors, etc. Outside of the hotel, the nearest place to shop is Barga or Gallicano, which are only accessible by car or taxi.

Animals are not allowed at the site.
