Conference Description
The Chemistry and Biology of Tetrapyrroles GRC is a premier, international scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research, prioritizing time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages. The conference program includes a diverse range of speakers and discussion leaders from institutions and organizations worldwide, concentrating on the latest developments in the field. The conference is five days long and held in a remote location to increase the sense of camaraderie and create scientific communities, with lasting collaborations and friendships. In addition to premier talks, the conference has designated time for poster sessions from individuals of all career stages, and afternoon free time and communal meals allow for informal networking opportunities with leaders in the field.
The Chemistry and Biology of Tetrapyrroles GRC meeting has a long history of uniting a diverse group of international junior and senior researchers who possess a common interest in the role of tetrapyrroles (hemes, porphyrins, B12/corrins, bilins, chlorophyll, and related cofactors). The meeting is one of the longest running GRC meetings which started in 1966. The 2024 GRC will focus on areas of tetrapyrrole research including synthesis, chemistry, structural studies, the environment, industry, health, and disease. Invited speakers will present new and unpublished research on topics related to hemes, porphyrins, B12/corrins, bilins, and chlorophyll biology from diverse organisms. Additional speakers, including junior researchers and those new to the field, will be selected for short talks from submitted abstracts. New in 2024 will be a Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) which will proceed the GRC. The GRS presents a unique opportunity for early-stage researchers, such as graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, to present their work, attend a keynote session with senior investigators, and partake in panel discussions with leaders in academia, government, and industry. In both the GRC and GRS, there will be ample opportunities for established and emerging scientists to interact and exchange ideas. Informal interactions will occur during the poster sessions, meet the expert lunches, Power Hour discussion, meals and social gatherings following sessions. We anticipate that the 2024 meeting will highlight new and emerging research on tetrapyrrole biology and provide a venue to establish new collaborations and partnerships.
The conference will consist of nine sessions, on the topics listed below. The conference chair is currently developing their preliminary program, which will include the names of the invited speakers and discussion leaders for each of these sessions. The preliminary program will be available by October 18, 2023. Please check back for updates.
