The Heterocyclic Compounds GRC, established in 1964, is one of the longest running Gordon Research Conferences and due to its popularity is always over-subscribed. This annual meeting continues a long-standing tradition of gathering together young scientists, established academics, experienced government researchers and industrial experts from across the planet to engage in a week long discussion of largely unpublished work. The setting is informal and limited to 200 attendees to maximize opportunities for social interactions with fellow conferees outside the scheduled lectures, and includes multiple poster sessions, a GRC-sponsored Power Hour and a wine tasting event held on the last evening of the conference.
Heterocycles are of immense importance to mankind, as they are found in the majority of marketed pharmaceutical agents, agricultural products, and in many types of consumer and industrially important materials. They are key components for communication in the natural world, and many isolated natural product heterocycles are the inspiration for countless research directions for the good of humanity.
The 2021 conference will offering a scientific program highlighting contemporary topics in the synthesis and applications of heterocyclic compounds presented by scientists ranging from renowned international experts to pre-tenure academics and researchers from primarily undergraduate institutions. Lectures will include topics covering the latest developments in new reaction strategies for the synthesis of heterocycles and their applications in total synthesis, advances in front-line laboratory synthesis technologies, innovations using heterocycles in molecular biology, and translation of ideas into practical outcomes in both medicinal chemistry and process development research programs.
Poster Sessions: A significant element of the conference is the sharing of research findings in poster sessions, which provides an opportunity for all conference participants to make connections with others having similar research interests. Poster presenters will therefore be given preference for acceptance into the meeting, and scientists from groups under-represented in the scientific community are particularly encouraged to apply. In addition, several speakers will be selected from the pool of submitted poster abstracts to present short talks on their research during the week.
The conference will consist of nine sessions, on the topics listed below. The conference chair is currently developing their preliminary program, which will include the names of the invited speakers and discussion leaders for each of these sessions. The preliminary program will be available by September 20, 2020. Please check back for updates.
