Conference Description
The Human Genetics and Genomics GRS provides a unique forum for young doctoral and post-doctoral researchers to present their work, discuss new methods, cutting edge ideas, and pre-published data, as well as to build collaborative relationships with their peers. Experienced mentors and trainee moderators will facilitate active participation in scientific discussion to allow all attendees to be engaged participants rather than spectators.
The “Genomic Medicine Cycle” encompasses multiple areas of genetic, genomic, and multi-omic research that support and build off one another as the field collectively works to better understand and treat disease. This paradigm begins by evaluating the association between DNA variants and human phenotypes to identify potential genes of importance in disease. The cycle then progresses to functionally test and characterize the mechanisms by which these DNA variants and genes of interest may disrupt key biological pathways that can drive disease. Finally, this collective work of information can be used in a myriad of ways to benefit individuals in the form of improved risk prediction, diagnoses, therapeutic targets, and treatment options. While not explicitly mentioned, inextricably linked to these key areas is the development of new methods to facilitate the progression through each part of the cycle.
This Human Genetics and Genomics GRS will highlight important work spanning the entire Genomic Medicine Cycle. We welcome any and all early-career scientists and trainees who are conducting research related to any facet of this cycle for a holistic view of ongoing research in this space.
ORAL PRESENTATION DEADLINE EXTENDED: Any applicants who wish to be considered for an oral presentation should submit their application and abstract by April 20, 2025.
