Conference Description
The Image Science GRC is a premier, international scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research, prioritizing time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages. The conference program includes a diverse range of speakers and discussion leaders from institutions and organizations worldwide, concentrating on the latest developments in the field. The conference is five days long and held in a remote location to increase the sense of camaraderie and create scientific communities, with lasting collaborations and friendships. In addition to premier talks, the conference has designated time for poster sessions from individuals of all career stages, and afternoon free time and communal meals allow for informal networking opportunities with leaders in the field.
Image Science studies the physics and statistics of photon generation, propagation of associated radiation through complex media and imaging systems, and detection to quantify and qualify the information created. Imaging and Image Science capture scales from nanometers to light-years, from biological species to galaxies. An aspect of contemporary imaging techniques involves artificial intelligence to mine the often-massive datasets. When combined with visualization, the generated data are poised to open new paths to knowledge and discovery. Sharing challenges in imaging and emerging solutions is integral to enabling advances. The organizing team includes chair Jannick Rolland (freeform optics for imaging, virtual and augmented reality), co-chair Sylvain Gigan (quantum optics, computational imaging), and past chair Rafael Piestun (optics and computational imaging). This team assembled a program of skilled speakers who are world experts in their fields and agreed to describe unpublished research of broad interest and relevance. The 2024 Gordon Research Conference on Image Science will provide a unique venue for scientists working in or driven by highly varied application areas to share gained knowledge and insights regarding the process chains common to all imaging systems. All attendees are invited to submit abstracts on their work to be presented as posters in several sessions attended by all during the 5-day conference. Financial support will be provided to qualified attendees to boost opportunities for young investigators and students and ensure a diverse audience of image scientists.
The topics, speakers, and discussion leaders for the conference sessions are displayed below. The conference chair is currently developing their detailed program, which will include the complete meeting schedule, as well as the talk titles for all speakers. The detailed program will be available by February 10, 2024. Please check back for updates.
