The Gordon Research Seminar on Inhibition in the CNS is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange novel data and innovative research ideas.
The inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA and the neurons which produce it play an outsized role of regulation of circuit function and behavior. This GRS program will showcase research on the unique roles of inhibitory neurons across different brain regions, the development and maintenance of inhibitory synapses and circuits, and computational models of inhibition.
A major goal of this meeting is to foster discussion and collaborations between junior scientists in the field of inhibitory neuroscience. This meeting will feature a ‘mixer meal’ where trainees across relevant topics will be matched into groups for the first meal of the conference. To increase access for those who have not previously attended, we will be prioritizing applications from countries, demographic groups, and labs that have been underrepresented at this conference. Furthermore, in order to create an engaging and enriching conference, we will be accepting only 1-2 trainees per lab until our representation goals are met.
This conference program has been built on an inclusive and welcoming environment for all attendees. The chairs are committed to accommodating accepted attendees to ensure all can participate fully. The venue provides a lactation room and assistance arranging on-site childcare; please see the 'Venue and Travel Information' link above. Disabilities and dietary needs will be accommodated; please list these and any other accommodations you need in the 'Special Needs' section of the registration page following acceptance. A gender-neutral restroom will be available.
Available funding will prioritize reimbursing childcare and visa expenses. Support for childcare is available for qualified applications. This assistance will be provided in order to increase access to this conference for those with childcare needs. If interested in support, please contact the Chairs Emily Jones and Lauren Hewitt for additional information on how to apply.
We encourage eligible attendees to apply to the Carl Storm Underrepresented Minority Fellowship and will nominate eligible attendees to International Diversity and PUI fellowships.
Application Instructions
The seminar will feature approximately 10 talks and 2 poster sessions. All attendees are expected to actively participate in the GRS, either by giving an oral presentation or presenting a poster. Therefore, all applications must include an abstract.
The seminar chair will select speakers from abstracts submitted by April 17, 2021. Those applicants who are not chosen for talks and those who apply after the deadline to be considered for an oral presentation will be expected to present a poster. In order to participate, you must submit an application by the date indicated in the Application Information section above.
Program Format
Gordon Research Seminars are 2-day meetings which take place on the Saturday and Sunday just prior to the start of the associated GRC. The GRS opens with a 1-hour introductory session on Saturday afternoon, followed by a poster session, dinner and a 2-hour session in the evening. Sunday morning begins with breakfast and is followed by another 2-hour session, a second poster session, and lunch. A final 1-hour session takes place just after lunch, and the associated GRC begins later that evening.
