The Gordon Research Conference on Mechanisms of Membrane Transport has been held for over 40 years. During this time, the membrane transporters and channels field has witnessed tremendous changes that have brought together scientists trained in various disciplines, such as biophysics, physiology, biochemistry, cell biology, structural biology, and computational biology. No meeting provides a better forum than this conference for investigators at all stages of their careers to engage in stimulating exchanges on the latest mechanistic breakthroughs in the membrane transport field.

A growing number of transporter and channel structures are becoming available, fundamentally changing our understanding of the mechanisms underlying the functioning of these remarkable molecules. Sessions will cover mechanistic studies (using structural, functional, thermodynamic, and computational methods) of a wide variety of transporters, including Na⁺- and H⁺-coupled transporters, CLC transporters and channels, cation channels, ABC transporters, and others. We will also discuss at length novel approaches to membrane protein structure and mechanisms.

The poster sessions will be a key component of the conference. All participants will be asked to bring posters, as they are an effective way to promote interactions and foster interdisciplinary collaborations. Abstracts will be chosen for short talks in sessions throughout the meeting. We especially encourage graduate students, postdocs, and junior faculty to attend.

The Conference on Mechanisms of Membrane Transport has a well-earned reputation for giving rise to numerous valuable insights into the structure, function, and mechanisms of transporters and channels, both during formal lectures and poster sessions and in the course of informal conversations. This is a tradition that we will continue.
