This multidisciplinary conference brings together established international leaders and new investigators to discuss the newest findings and latest conundrums of protein transport. Although protein transport across membrane has been a focus of research since the dawn of molecular biology, the remarkable diversity and breadth of mechanisms at play, the importance of these varied processes in health and disease, and the sheer variety of transport modalities that have evolved ensures that each of these conferences is full of unexpected turns and surprising observations. This dynamic aspect of the field combined with the blistering pace of new techniques and technologies creates an exciting environment for both seasoned investigators and the newest innovators. The conference will be organized by mechanistic subtopics, rather than membrane-of-origin, to enhance cross-fertilization of ideas and concepts across traditionally organelle-based fields of study. Some sessions will be devoted to new techniques of study, and systems with direct translational relevance. Subjects of interest within the sessions will include membrane targeting and sorting specificity, orthogonal extraction and insertion mechanisms, pathogen tactics of protein secretion, degradative mechanisms, and structure-based insight into those processes. Prearranged talks by invited speakers – both established and new – will be augmented by shorter talks chosen from submitted abstracts. This conference never fails to inspire new lines of inquiry and fruitful collaborations across discipline and career stage lines.
The conference will consist of nine sessions, on the topics listed below. The conference chair is currently developing their preliminary program, which will include the names of the invited speakers and discussion leaders for each of these sessions.
