The Soft Condensed Matter Physics GRC is a premier, international scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research, prioritizing time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages. The conference program includes an array of speakers and discussion leaders from institutions and organizations worldwide, concentrating on the latest developments in the field. The conference is five days long and held in a remote location to increase the sense of camaraderie and create scientific communities, with lasting collaborations and friendships. In addition to premier talks, the conference has designated time for poster sessions from individuals of all career stages, and afternoon free time and communal meals allow for informal networking opportunities with leaders in the field.
Soft matter physics has broadened from asking how soft materials deform, flow, and assemble to asking how they sense, adapt, learn, and control themselves. This conference will span that range. Sessions will cover the classical core of the field, including complex fluids, liquid crystals, phase separation, and the mechanics of soft solids, alongside active and living matter, where the same tools are applied to cells, tissues, organisms, and the materials they build. Other sessions will follow the field into learning, adaptation, and control in materials and living systems, into the two-way traffic between soft matter and machine learning, and into the borders where soft matter ideas are reshaping hard condensed matter and where biology serves as a source of design principles. The program will also address the growing role of soft materials in sustainability and human health.
Speakers and discussion leaders come from physics, chemistry, engineering, the life sciences, and industry, and span career stages from junior researchers to established leaders. Talks present unpublished work, with substantial time for discussion after each one. Poster sessions give participants at every career stage the chance to present, and afternoon free time and communal meals give them direct access to leaders in the field. A two-day GRS precedes the conference, where graduate students and postdoctoral scholars present their work and build networks with their peers.
