The Barrier Function of Mammalian Skin GRS provides a unique forum for young doctoral and post-doctoral researchers to present their work, discuss new methods, cutting edge ideas, and pre-published data, as well as to build collaborative relationships with their peers. Experienced mentors and trainee moderators will facilitate active participation in scientific discussion to allow all attendees to be engaged participants rather than spectators.
This seminar emphasizes connection across interdisciplinary fields of skin research by fostering attendee engagement with professional mentors drawn by the internationally renowned Gordon Research Conference (GRC). The GRS is uniquely programmed to promote participation amongst young investigators in the form of individual research presentations, scientific poster forums, and career-related panel sessions with established scientists, in addition to the opportunity to create lasting social and professional network connections.
The 2025 GRS theme is “Mechanisms of Skin Barrier Function in Dermatological Research and Therapeutic Applications.” The seminar will explore technological advancements in understanding skin barrier function through discoveries at the laboratory benchtop and clinical level. We aim to highlight translational parallels between clinical application and experimental models available for skin-related research across several arenas including, but not limited to, skin aging, microbiome health, tissue regeneration and wound healing, pharmaceutical therapeutic approaches, cosmetic formulations, immunology of the skin, and bioinformatics.
The GRS provides an exciting opportunity for graduate and post-doctoral researchers to present their work to peers, make meaningful scientific and social connections, and gain confidence for the following GRC. This year’s seminar includes information on career-development focused on potential career trajectories within skin research and identifying funding resources that will allow attendees a formal opportunity to gain mentorship from established professionals in academia, industry, and policy. The GRS is a great platform for young professionals to begin networking within their field, meet colleagues with similar interests, and build lasting collaborations that enhance our understanding of the skin barrier.
