Conference Description
The Bioinspired Materials GRC is a premier, international scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research, prioritizing time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages. The conference program includes an array of speakers and discussion leaders from institutions and organizations worldwide, concentrating on the latest developments in the field. The conference is five days long and held in a remote location to increase the sense of camaraderie and create scientific communities, with lasting collaborations and friendships. In addition to premier talks, the conference has designated time for poster sessions from individuals of all career stages, and afternoon free time and communal meals allow for informal networking opportunities with leaders in the field.
The interdisciplinary field of bioinspired materials involves developing a fundamental understanding of the structure, properties, and function of naturally occurring materials and using this knowledge to design artificial materials that mimic - and potentially learn from and outperform - aspects of the living originals. Bioinspired materials are at the intersection of several fields of science and technology, and the Bioinspired Materials GRC will bring together a diverse group of scientists and researchers to foster the cross-fertilization of ideas between fields in which bioinspired materials play a role.
In the 2026 edition of the GRC, we will encourage speakers and attendees to discuss scientific problems in nature for which biomimetic solutions have not yet been found, as well as areas where biomimicry leads to engineered solutions that have no natural counterpart. The presentations and discussions will aim to discover new approaches that will bring us closer to solving these unsolved problems.
The meeting will be preceded by a Gordon Research Seminar for graduate students and postdocs to present their work prior to the conference.
The conference will consist of nine sessions, on the topics listed below. The conference chair is currently developing their preliminary program, which will include the names of the invited speakers and discussion leaders for each of these sessions. The preliminary program will be available by September 17, 2025. Please check back for updates.
