Modeling Coastal Marine Circulation and Physics and the Environmental Processes that They Influence

The Coastal Ocean Modeling GRC features novel and recent developments in the application of numerical modeling and simulation to understanding coastal ocean processes and furthering our capabilities for their prediction. In this context, the "coastal ocean" encompasses estuarine, littoral zone, continental shelf, and shelf-break regions, and processes that drive exchanges between coastal waters and the adjacent deep-ocean or marginal seas. Topics of interest extend to modeling the interactions between ocean circulation and the biosphere, cryosphere and atmosphere.

In 2015, the session themes are Sub-mesoscale Processes and Internal Waves, Near-shore and Estuarine Processes, Boundary Layer Dynamics, Probabilistic Approaches and Risk Assessment, Advanced Numerical Methods, State Estimation and Data Assimilation, Climate Change in the Coastal Ocean, Physics-ecosystem Interactions, and Ice shelf/Sea-ice Modeling.

The conference program comprises invited talks followed by ample discussion time to enable attendees to explore implications of the material presented. Talks are scheduled in the morning and evening only, leaving the afternoon open for informal gathering to promote cross-disciplinary exchange of ideas and collaborations, and facilitate interaction between established researchers, students, and early career scientists. Poster sessions are an integral part of the Conference and all attendees are strongly encouraged to prepare one or more posters.
