Conference Description

The Gordon Research Seminar on Environmental Nanotechnology is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting edge ideas.

This meeting will focus on cutting edge methods used to synthesize ENMs to promote their positive benefits to society while keeping in mind their safe design. Novel methods used to analyze engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) in dynamic environmental systems (e.g., natural aqueous and subsurface environments, presence of multiple ENMs, and bio-solids) are also going to be addressed. Topics include, but are not limited to: online and in-situ analysis of ENMs; innovative methods for separating and characterizing ENMs collected in air, water, or soil; identifying ENM agglomerate-combinations; transformations (e.g., oxidation or reduction) of ENMs once released into the environment, and sustainable synthesis methods used to prevent unintended consequences if released into the environment.

Professional Development Component: In this part of the GRS, graduate students and post-docs will have an opportunity to meet with and ask questions to a panel of leading professionals in industry, academia, and government to gain insight into potential future careers. The professional panel will help answer questions regarding the "why", "how", and "when" to pursue these different career paths.

This GRS will be held in conjunction with the "Environmental Nanotechnology" Gordon Research Seminar (GRS). Those interested in attending both meetings must submit an application for the GRC in addition to an application for the GRS. Refer to the associated GRC program page for more information.
