This research conference aims to present a forum for discussion on spin-dependent and magnetic phenomena in condensed matter systems with reduced dimensions. The main focus of the conference is on imaging techniques and magnetic microscopies, on properties of atomic scale magnetism, on systems, transport and dynamical processes relevant for the field of semiconductor and metal bases spintronics as well as quantum information.

Recent studies include the study of transport through molecular magnets, complex phases imaged at the atomic scale, the manipulation of magnetism by electrical fields, prospective of terabit magnetic memory. In the last years a number of complementary and powerful techniques have been developed which can now be used to image the magnetic structure of interesting materials from the atomic to the sub-micrometer scale. Their results promise an essential advance of the theoretical understanding of the important magnetic interactions. Typical topics include:

1. Magnetic microscopies, magnetic structures in low dimensions, magnetic nanoparticles, atomic scale magnetism, magnetic nanowires and chains, magnetic point contact, molecular magnets, quantum dots, Kondo systems, qubit-systems. Studies of structural, electronic, magnetic and orbital degrees of freedom. Spin-Orbit related phenomena such as Rashba-effect.
2. Magnetic semiconductors, oxide based magnetic semiconductors, spin-Hall effect, electrical spin-injection, spin-manipulation, spin-lifetimes.
3. Magnetic tunneljunctions, multifunctional junctions, magnetization dynamics, Spin-wave excitations, domain-wall motion and storage, current induced switching, magnetic random access memory, multiferroics.
