Preceding this year’s GRC on Mitochondria and Chloroplasts, a Gordon-Kenan Research Seminar (GRS) will be held to give graduate students and postdocs the opportunity to discuss the fascinating biology of these organelles. This should be a great opportunity to present and debate the research we are doing without being intimidated by the presence of senior investigators. We can feel free to ask any kind of questions about aspects we are not familiar with and therefore, the GRS will be a valuable preparation in order to benefit fully from the GRC that follows.

Mitochondria and chloroplasts are not only the energy transforming organelles that supply the cell with ATP and reducing power. More recently, their importance in a variety of biological processes has become apparent, from ageing to apoptosis, signaling to redox homeostasis. The field of mitochondria and chloroplasts covers a wide variety of biological questions, model organisms and practical applications, and will be a great source of exciting discussions.
