The Organic Geochemistry GRC is a premier, international scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research, prioritizing time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages. The conference program includes an array of speakers and discussion leaders from institutions and organizations worldwide, concentrating on the latest developments in the field. The conference is five days long and held in a remote location to increase the sense of camaraderie and create scientific communities, with lasting collaborations and friendships. In addition to premier talks, the conference has designated time for poster sessions from individuals of all career stages, and afternoon free time and communal meals allow for informal networking opportunities with leaders in the field.
This conference will bring together leading experts and rising stars to explore the most recent advances in the study of organic matter in natural systems, with particular emphasis on the interdisciplinary nature of modern organic geochemistry. We will examine how state-of-the-art tools—such as advanced biomarker analysis, compound-specific stable isotopes, multi-omics methods, data analytics, and modeling—can be applied to address a wide range of global challenges. Key themes will include the transformation and preservation of organic matter over geological timescales; unraveling past and present climate dynamics; investigating the role of microorganisms in the global cycling of elements; identifying biosignatures and processes in extreme environments and on other planetary bodies; employing multi-omic approaches to integrate biological and chemical insights; tracing the sources and fate of contaminants; and advancing knowledge at the frontiers of energy research.
We warmly invite scientists from all disciplines and at every career stage to join us in Holderness, New Hampshire, in 2026 to celebrate the 56th anniversary of the Organic Geochemistry GRC and to collectively shape both the present and the future of this rapidly evolving field.
The conference will be preceded by the Gordon Research Seminar (GRS), designed as a forum for early career scientists—including graduate students and postdoctoral researchers—to share their research, exchange experiences, receive mentorship, and discuss challenges and opportunities in a collegial, supportive, and informal setting. This year, the GRS will focus on how organic geochemistry has expanded well beyond its petroleum-based roots to tackle some of society’s most pressing scientific questions.
We are actively pursuing funding to enable the attendance of early career researchers and to strengthen representation across the wider scientific community. Please note that due to the limited accommodations available at the Holderness venue, family and guest housing options are extremely restricted. Those requiring family or guest accommodations are encouraged to contact the Conference Operations Associate for assistance.
