30 Years of Progress

The 2011 Gordon Research Conference on “Periodontal Diseases: 30 Years of Progress” will provide a venue for research presentations focusing on the breadth of clinical, translational, and basic sciences in periodontal disease. A Keynote Presentation will provide an historical overview of the fields since the 1st conference in 1981. The conference program itself comprises oral presentations in the topic areas of the oral microbiome, innate and adaptive immunity, osteoimmunology, periodontal therapy and regeneration, patient disease specificity including genetic risk markers, and periodontal disease as a public health issue. Each of these areas will be addressed by investigators providing state-of-the-science in the range of areas that address the complexity of these disease(s). The conference structure also provides opportunities for junior investigators and graduate students to present studies in poster presentations that interface with the specific topics throughout the conference. Together with programmed discussion times and informal gatherings in the afternoon and evenings, the interactive atmosphere affords ample occasions to promote interdisciplinary and even global research discussions and collaborations.
