The Gordon Research Seminar - "Photosynthesis and Bioenergy" will focus on biological and bio-mimetic systems for photochemical energy conversion and fuel production. Our present fossil fuel-based energy system relies upon the combustion of past photosynthetic products. This system has produced environmental, political, and social challenges which demand the development of alternative, non-polluting energy sources. Sunlight is sufficiently abundant and clean to provide for projected human energy needs in a responsible manner. In order to utilize this energy, systems capable of efficiently capturing, converting, and storing solar energy are required.
