Solar Energy Conversion to Fuels

The Gordon Research Seminar on Renewable Energy: Solar Fuels is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting edge ideas.

The 2016 Solar Fuels GRS welcomes young researchers to join us in Lucca, Italy to present their research on solar energy conversion to fuels, both in the form of oral presentations and posters. The meeting will provide a unique opportunity to network with peers and young star faculty members from around the globe in an intimate setting. The underlying theme of the meeting will focus on integrated systems for artificial photosynthesis and prospective speakers are encouraged to highlight how their work fits into this theme. Topics for talks and posters will cover all aspects of artificial photosynthesis, from light capture and carrier generation, charge transfer/separation at interfaces, and multi-electron catalysis to complete solar-fuel systems (including solar thermal) and scale-up. Insights from advanced and in situ characterization techniques, theory and systems modelling, and biological/bio-inspired/biomimetic systems will also be featured.    

The scientific program will not only highlight the current challenges in the field, but also emphasize that as we advance towards fully-functioning integrated systems, the lines between our individual areas of expertise do (and should) become blurred. The increasing demand for renewable energy on a global scale is not a need that any one of us will fulfill alone, and the 2016 Solar Fuels GRS provides the researchers who will soon lead the field with an opportunity to exchange ideas and form long-lasting relationships that are integral to the success of photosynthetic-inspired fuel production systems.
