The Research at High Pressure GRS provides a unique forum for young doctoral and post-doctoral researchers to present their work, discuss new methods, cutting edge ideas, and pre-published data, as well as to build collaborative relationships with their peers. Experienced mentors and trainee moderators will facilitate active participation in scientific discussion to allow all attendees to be engaged participants rather than spectators.
The Research at High Pressure Gordon Research Seminar is a unique international opportunity for young researchers to be in the spotlight and show their potential in front of their peers. Since its foundation, GRS has served as a catalyst for generations of enthusiastic scientists to thrive, by bonding with colleagues who became lifelong collaborators and friends, by learning from peers who are today’s experts in their field, and by inspiring milestone contributions of our discipline. The two days at the scenic venue of Holderness, the GRS 2026 will explore the theme “Bridging Fundamental Phenomena to Functional Phases with Theories and Observations”, highlighting how advances in both static and dynamic high-pressure techniques are reshaping our understanding of matter under extreme conditions. The 2026 seminar will emphasize the integration of experimental and theoretical approaches to study fundamental phenomena and how these phenomena impact pressure-driven chemical transformations, geophysical materials, and the search of functional quantum phases. The meeting blends cutting-edge scientific talks with constructive time for discussions, offering great opportunities for intellectual exchange in an informal setting. Poster sessions and social events become the building blocks that construct and reinforce our community across generations of researchers. Decades of high-pressure research have led to transformative discoveries, from probing planetary interiors to synthesizing unconventional materials that challenged our knowledge of chemistry and physics. This progress is driven by novel theories, computational methods, machine learning based approaches, static and dynamic compression techniques, ultrafast X-ray probes, and next-generation diagnostics that are now emerging thanks to the effort of young researchers. The Research at High Pressure GRS fosters a friendly international environment that inspires new ideas, builds lasting collaborations, and prepares early-career researchers to become future leaders in the high-pressure community.
Application Instructions
The seminar will feature approximately 10 talks and 2 poster sessions. All attendees are expected to actively participate in the GRS, either by giving an oral presentation or presenting a poster. Therefore, all applications must include an abstract.
The seminar chair will select speakers from abstracts submitted by April 12, 2026. Those applicants who are not chosen for talks and those who apply after the deadline to be considered for an oral presentation will be expected to present a poster. In order to participate, you must submit an application by the date indicated in the Application Information section above.
Program Format
Gordon Research Seminars are 2-day meetings which take place on the Saturday and Sunday just prior to the start of the associated GRC. The GRS opens with a 1-hour introductory session on Saturday afternoon, followed by a poster session, dinner and a 2-hour session in the evening. Sunday morning begins with breakfast and is followed by another 2-hour session, a second poster session, and lunch. A final 1-hour session takes place just after lunch, and the associated GRC begins later that evening.
