Conference Description

The Gordon Research Seminar on Rock Deformation is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting edge ideas.

This meeting focuses on the mechanisms and implications of rock deformation with an emphasis on 1) processes that operate on multiple time and length scales, facilitating extrapolation from laboratory to Earth, and 2) difficulties and progress in elucidating the mechanics of compositionally complex systems. A broad spectrum of contributions, ranging from brittle deformation and friction to viscous flow, is encouraged. Two keynote presentations will be given by Greg Hirth (Brown) and Ian Jackson (ANU).
