From the Lab to the Field – Combining Observation, Theory and Modelling to Understand Rock Deformation Processes

The Gordon Research Seminar on Rock Deformation is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting edge ideas.

The focus of this meeting is on how experimental and field observations, theoretical models and numerical simulations, and combinations thereof, can be used to improve understanding of deformation phenomena. Of interest are the use of theory and experimentation to elucidate grain/aggregate-scale processes and numerical efforts to upscale these processes to field conditions, and how laboratory and field data and theory inform and are informed by numerical models of deformation processes. We invite contributions from fundamental to applied research across a variety of deformation styles, rheologies, and temporal and spatial scales ranging from grain boundary processes to earthquakes.
