The Salmonella Biology and Pathogenesis GRS provides a unique forum for young doctoral and post-doctoral researchers to present their work, discuss new methods, cutting edge ideas, and pre-published data, as well as to build collaborative relationships with their peers. Experienced mentors and trainee moderators will facilitate active participation in scientific discussion to allow all attendees to be engaged participants rather than spectators.
We are proud to announce the third Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) meeting on Salmonella Biology and Pathogenesis. This year’s seminar will feature recent advancements in our understanding of how the host-pathogen interface defines disease outcomes and regulates Salmonella biology. Despite various barriers against infection, Salmonella has remained a highly successful pathogen leading to significant health and economic burden. Key factors empowering this success entail a multitude of virulence strategies that drive infection and facilitate interactions with the host immune response to the pathogen’s benefit. We look forward to promoting collaboration, discussion, and networking amongst a cohort of junior investigators who share a common interest in the study of Salmonella.
During the GRS, the chairs will select oral presentations from the submitted abstracts and allow all participants to present their work in the form of a scientific poster. These opportunities allow early-career researchers to showcase new data, gain visibility, stimulate new ideas, and gain experience in science communication, as well as build professional networks prior to the associated Gordon Research Conference (GRC). This seminar will focus on how host-microbe interactions shape Salmonella pathogenesis and should be of interest to any junior investigator interested in the study of this pathogen and the complexity of its various interactions. Participants of the GRS are strongly encouraged to also present posters at the associated GRC. Some outstanding speakers from the GRS will be selected to also present an oral presentation at the following GRC.
Application Instructions
The seminar will feature approximately 10 talks and 2 poster sessions. All attendees are expected to actively participate in the GRS, either by giving an oral presentation or presenting a poster. Therefore, all applications must include an abstract.
The seminar chair will select speakers from abstracts submitted by April 11, 2027. Those applicants who are not chosen for talks and those who apply after the deadline to be considered for an oral presentation will be expected to present a poster. In order to participate, you must submit an application by the date indicated in the Application Information section above.
Program Format
Gordon Research Seminars are 2-day meetings which take place on the Saturday and Sunday just prior to the start of the associated GRC. The GRS opens with a 1-hour introductory session on Saturday afternoon, followed by a poster session, dinner and a 2-hour session in the evening. Sunday morning begins with breakfast and is followed by another 2-hour session, a second poster session, and lunch. A final 1-hour session takes place just after lunch, and the associated GRC begins later that evening.
