Structures, Mechanisms and Targets of Human Disease

The 2015 Gordon Research Conference on Bioenergetics will bring together junior and senior scientists interested in the molecular and cellular aspects of energy converting processes. These processes have a continuously expanding impact on human disease. The formal scientific and poster sessions will offer a platform for presenting and discussing the most recent findings regarding Structures, Mechanisms and Targets of Human Disease. One focus of the meeting will be the rapidly advancing developments in structure-function relationships and the regulation of membrane-integral multiprotein complexes controlling biological energy conversion. They will include Complexes I-IV of the electron transport chain and molecular motors like F₁F_o ATP synthases, V₁V_o ATPases and closely related A₁A_o ATPases. Other focuses of the meeting will be new approaches and concepts for (i) advancing high-resolution structures and mechanistic determinations, and (ii) targeting bioenergetics systems in human pathologies including cancer and mitochondrial and infectious diseases. Another emphasis will be the recent advances in mitochondria physiology and its cellular interactions. The scope of the meeting also extends to participants interested in related oxidation-reduction systems, mitochondrial transporters and ion translocating ATPases. A highlight of the Bioenergetics Gordon Research Conference is the many opportunities for early-career scientists to directly participate in this important scientific frontier. Junior investigators will present their own research in two venues, the poster sessions and the poster discussion session scheduled Thursday morning where selected posters in all areas are presented. The 2015 Bioenergetics Gordon Conference and its venue, Proctor Academy, will provide exceptional opportunities to promote interactions among the bioenergetics community in an environment most conducive for junior scientists to interact with established investigators.
