Travel Visas

Attention: Advance travel planning and early visa application are strongly encouraged for non-US citizens traveling to the United States. Visit the US Department of State: Bureau of Consular Affairs web site for more information regarding the procedure for obtaining a visa or information regarding the ESTA application.

Note: Citizens of a Visa Waiver Program country travelling to the USA must now possess a machine readable passport and an ESTA approval card. ESTA applications may be submitted any time prior to travel and generally remain valid for two years.

Driving Directions from the closest cities with major airports to the Stoweflake Conference Center are available via the links below:

Southern Points of Origin
  • From Boston, Massachusetts: Take Interstate 93 North to Interstate 89 North (in Bow, NH) and follow I-89 to Vermont Exit 10, Waterbury/Stowe/Rt. 100. (See directions from RT 100 below.)
  • From Hartford, Connecticut: Take Interstate 91 North to Interstate 89 North in White River Junction, VT. Follow I-89 to Vermont Exit 10, Waterbury/Stowe/Rt. 100. (See directions from RT 100 below.)
  • From New York City, New York: Take Interstate 95 North to Interstate 91 North. Follow I-91 North to I-89 North in White River Junction, VT. Follow I-89 to Vermont Exit 10, Waterbury/Stowe/Rt. 100. (See directions from RT 100 below.)
  • From Albany, New Jersey and Pennsylvania: Take Interstate 87 North to Exit 20 (Fort Ann exit). Follow Route 149 East to Fort Ann, NY. At the light in Fort Ann, make a left onto Route 4 East and follow to Rutland, Vermont. Once in Rutland, you will follow Route 7 North for 2-3 miles until you rejoin Route 4 East again. Follow Route 4 East to Route 100 North to Route 107 North to Interstate 89. Take Interstate 89 North to Exit 10. (See directions from RT 100 below.)
  • Directions from RT 100: Turn right onto Route 100 at the end of the exit ramp and continue on for approx. 11 miles. Turn left at the blinking red light in the village of Stowe onto Rt. 108 (Mountain Road). Continue on Rt. 108 for approx. 2 miles - the Stoweflake will be on your right.
Northern Points of Origin
  • From Montreal, Quebec, Canada: Take Autoroute 10 East from the Champlain Bridge. Then take Autoroute 35 South to 133, to the border into Vermont. Continue South on Interstate 89 to Vermont Exit 10. Turn left onto Route 100 at the end of the exit ramp and continue on for approx. 11 miles. Turn left at the blinking red light in the village of Stowe onto Rt. 108 (Mountain Road). Continue on Rt. 108 for approx. 2 miles - the Stoweflake will be on your right.
From the Burlington International Airport
  • Take Interstate 89 South to Vermont Exit 10, Waterbury/Stowe/Rt. 100. Turn left onto Route 100 at the end of the exit ramp and continue on for approx. 11 miles. Turn left at the blinking red light in the village of Stowe onto Rt. 108 (Mountain Road). Continue on Rt. 108 for approx. 2 miles - the Stoweflake will be on your right.

Public and Private Transportation

Important Note: Transportation from Boston Logan Airport (BOS) and Albany Airport (ALB) to the Stoweflake Conference Center is limited. We highly recommend that you fly to Burlington Airport (BTV). There are no GRC Buses provided from Boston Logan Airport (BOS).
  • Amtrak (Phone: 800-872-7245)
    Whether you are coming from Boston, Albany, New York City, Washington DC, or any of the over 100 stations in the Northeast region, you can take Amtrak to the Waterbury-Stowe station. Additional taxi service from the Waterbury-Stowe station to Stoweflake Conference Center (15 miles) is required.
  • Ethan Allen Coachworks (Phone: 802-862-1924)
    Ethan Allen Coachworks provides transportation from Burlington Airport and Albany International Airport, along with other major airports throughout New England. Vehicle types include: Sedans, SUVs, Vans, Limousines and Mini-Coaches. We have been service providers to Stoweflake for many years now.   • Greyhound Bus (Phone: 800-231-2222)
    Greyhound offers limited bus transportation from Boston, MA and Albany, NY (via Boston) to Burlington, VT. Additional taxi to the Stoweflake Conference Center is required (38 miles).
  • Jessica's Vital Transit (Phone: 802-279-8251)
    Provides private point-to-point transportation throughout the region including Burlington Airport, Waterbury-Stowe Amtrak station, and Burlington Greyhound station as well as Logan Airport (Boston, MA), Albany Airport (Albany, NY), and Manchester Airport (Manchester, NH).
  • Snowflake Taxi (Phone: 802-253-7666)
    Snowflake Taxi offers service between the Burlington Airport and Stowe for $75. Airport service is also available between Logan Airport (Boston, MA) and Stowe.
  • Stowe Taxi (Phone: 802-253-9490)
    Stowe Taxi provides local taxi service as well as transportation from the Burlington Airport (estimated fare is $84 for one or $42 for two) and the Waterbury-Stowe Amtrak station (estimated fare is $35) to the Stoweflake Conference Center.

    Thomas Transportation Services has served the transportation needs of the Southwestern NH, Southern VT and Northwestern MA areas for more than 24 years. Thomas offers round-trip discounts for GRC attendees. Call or visit their web site to make a reservation. Thomas Transportation's fleet includes sedans, vans, limousines and full size motor coaches, all staffed by professionally trained drivers. Thomas services all the major airports in the northeast (Logan, Bradley/Hartford, Manchester and all the New York airports).

Airlines and Airports

  • Albany Airport (ALB)
    Albany Airport is located in Albany, New York and is approximately 180 miles from the Stoweflake Conference Center. Most major domestic and international airlines fly to ALB. Visit the Airport’s web site for a complete list of airlines. Additional ground transportation is required to the Stoweflake Conference Center.
  • Burlington Airport (BTV)
    Burlington International Airport (BTV) is only 36 miles from the Stoweflake site. We recommend international travelers consider flights that may connect through New York area airports and then travel on to Burlington. Visit the Airport's web site for a complete list of airlines. The airport offers many options to travel to Stoweflake, including rental cars and taxis.
  • Manchester Airport (MHT)
    Manchester Airport is located in Manchester, New Hampshire and is approximately 160 miles from the Stoweflake Conference Center. Many major airlines (including Continental, Delta, Northwest, Southwest, United, and US Air) fly to MHT. Visit the airport’s web site for a complete list of airlines. Manchester is not an international airport. Additional ground transportation is required to the Stoweflake Conference Center.

Special Accommodations for Before or After the Meeting

    If you need to stay overnight in Boston before or after the meeting, the Embassy Suites Boston at Logan Airport (207 Porter Street, Boston, MA) offers a discounted rate for GRC participants. The hotel is located half a mile from Logan Airport and offers a complimentary shuttle. Reservations can be made directly on the hotel’s web site using one of the following special links for GRC attendees (select the date range in which you will be staying):

    - August 4, 2017 - August 20, 2017

    Or, you can call 617-567-5000 and ask for the Gordon Research Conferences (GRC) rate. The hotel recommends that GRC attendees make reservations as soon as possible because summer weekends sell out quickly.

  • Stoweflake Conference Center (Phone: 800-253-2232)
    If you wish to stay at the conference site before or after the meeting, Stoweflake offers a discounted rate of $159 plus tax per night. To make a reservation in advance, please call the reservations department at 1-800-253-2232. When making your reservation for an extended stay, be sure to state that you are attending a Gordon Research Seminar/Conference.
